Unit 2: Multiplication & Division Relationships
This unit will allow students to select and apply various computational methods, such as mental math, paper and pencil techniques, and the use of calculators in the areas of multiplication and division.
Unit Objectives:
Unit Essential Questions:
Unit Enduring Understandings:
Below I have included the several PDF files that are used in class to help present the material. The first file is the whole PDF file of what is taught in class with teacher notes. The second file is the specific slides and information that students add to their Math Notebooks. The third PDF file is the classwork, homework, and unit review with the answer key. The answer key is super helpful for parents and students to check their work after completing the assignment or help parents better understand what the problem is specifically looking for.
Unit Objectives:
- Students will identify and recognize the 5 multiplication properties and use them to solve equations.
- Students will find all factor pairs for a whole number in the range 1-100.
- Students will be able to define the terms: factors and multiples and prime and composite.
- Students will solve multi-step word problems involving multiplication and division of whole numbers.
Unit Essential Questions:
- How do you factor a given number?
- Is a number prime or composite and why?
- How do I find multiples of a given number?
- How do numbers relate to each other when using multiplication and division?
- How do I solve word problems with unknown variables?
Unit Enduring Understandings:
- Understand and use the inverse relationships between multiplication and division.
- Continue to develop proficiency with basic multiplication and division facts.
