Mathematics
Description: Students will be focusing on the following main areas: (1) developing understanding and fluency with multi-digit multiplication, and developing understanding of dividing to find quotients involving multi-digit dividends; (2) developing an understanding of fraction equivalence, addition and subtraction of fractions with like denominators, and multiplication of fractions by whole numbers; (3) understanding that geometric figures can be analyzed and classified based on their properties, such as having parallel sides, perpendicular sides, particular angle measures, and symmetry.
This year, students will not have text books or work books, but will be taught with digital materials, manipulative, and working together as a team to master learning goals. Students will keep Math Notebooks during lessons and will have class and homework assignments to practice learning objectives. Students will also take lesson quizzes, tests, and complete projects to show student achievement of learning goals. Students will be able take home their Math Notebooks to use as a resource for homework and studying.

Math Masters
Knowing your math facts for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are very important. Once you know them, it will make solving all other math problems easier. To help students learn their facts, we are beginning our Math Masters program. Students should practice their math facts for at least 30 minutes each week. Students may practice the way that best fits their learning style. Below are some links to websites that may help the students practice their math facts.

Math Retake Quiz or Test Information
Students are able to earn the opportunity to retake a quiz or test in math to earn a higher score. Students must download and print the two PDF files below. The first is a Retake Contract and the second is the Correction Form. Students must fill out all forms completely. Students will show the correct way to do the problem. They may get help from a teacher, parent, tutor, and/or other students. It is encouraged that you get help from someone if you do not understand the concept! A parent/guardian must sign the Retake Quiz or Test Contact after they have double checked that all of the directions have been followed and completed.
The completed contract is due by 8:15 AM on the day specified below. No extensions and no exceptions! Do not wait until the last day to turn it in. Just in case the contract is not complete, Mrs. Nechvatal will be able to let you know so you can fix what is not complete.
