Writing
Students are writing an essay to persuade someone to live in a city or suburb. They are using information from their Social Studies Text to support their point of view with reasons and information. They are also using details and examples from their life and others to help support their opinion. Next we will be working on stating our opinion clearly, linking opinion and reasons using words and phrases, and providing a concluding paragraph about the opinion of living in a city or suburb. Below you will find the lessons we have been working on up to 4/14/14. The PDF file will show you the examples and models of sections we have done as a class and then students have completed for their own essay.

Weekly Math Fact & Reading Log
Students are expected to study their math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) for at least 25 minutes every week and read 30 minutes each night we have school for a total of 2 ½ hours per week. Students must also journal about what they read. The journal must be at least 6 sentences and stapled to the log. Students will earn 10 points for the math facts and 35 points for the reading and journal.
Below is a chart to log which facts were studied, what materials you read and the amount of time spent on both. Once you have completed both the math and reading, both the parent and student must sign the bottom and it can then be turned into Mrs. Nechvatal. All Math Fact & Reading Logs with Journals are due on Mondays (or the first day of the school week).
Please encourage your child to read and practice their math facts. It will help him/her with writing, spelling, vocabulary, comprehension skills and math computation skills. If your child does not have a book to read or does not understand the form, please have them speak to me to solve this problem. I have also included some online games under the math page for students to practice with parent guidance. I have attached a form to use in case they misplaced the form I gave them in class.

Spelling
At the beginning of each week, students take a pre-quiz on that weeks spelling words. If a student earns 100% on the pre-quiz, I will give them more challenging words to learn for that week. Students also complete spelling homework that is explained in the file below with the appropriate spelling list. There should also be a copy in the student's Boomerang Folder in the Homework section. Students are to complete the homework and turn it in on the final test date in the morning. Late homework will not be excepted as this homework is intended for the students to use to help them study.
